Here is my USB PIC programmer.It is actually a clone of Pickit2 programmer. The PCB has been done with Cadsoft Eagle Professional 5.10.0. I have attached the actual PCB layout in PDF format.The firmware for the PIC 18F2550 is also available there.You need to program this PIC 18F2550 from a different programmer & make it permanent inside this programmer.
The USB PIC programmer consists with a standard 5 pin header to connect an external target board.
Target pins = PGC,PGD,GND,VDD,MCLR
Use an appropriate external target board pins to this header.Then you can place new PIC micro controllers to the target board & program those PICs.
